Deception Island

Last day of sampling since tomorrow (Feb 21st) we had to stop incubations and pack our luggage and samples.
We decided to perform the sampling outside the bay (in open ocean) to see if there were any differences in levels and Hg methylation/demethylation capability between inside and outside Deception waters.

Sampling took place near the penguin colony and we had same free time to admire this fantastic bird species.

Also we had the change to see leopard seals hunting in the open waters: not a beautiful scenario but that’s nature in action.

With the sampling and incubations our field work is completed.

All our objectives were accomplished.

​Again we have to thank the entire military friends we made at the station. Again their work was perfect and our goals were impossible to be reached without their support.
