Deixámos as Ilhas Falkland/Malvinas no dia 19 no início da tarde. Com o anúncio do capitão que iríamos para o mar, a alegria foi grande. Estamos prontos!
A saída de Stanley foi calma. Estava de chuva mas sem muito vento.
After many months of preparations, with the growing raising of tests on the equipment, double-checking everything, with everyone onboard, we are finally going South!!!
We left the Falkland/Malvinas Islands on the 19th January at the beginning of the afternoon After the announcement by the captain that we were departing, a smile came to everyone.
It was rainy but with only a light, softy breeze.
We even had the nice surprise of Commerson´s dolphins (nice photo taken by Mike Gloistein (check his blog at http://www.gm0hcq.com/) coming to say “have a nice expedition!”.
We are ready! At that time, we took our sickness pills (to be taken 2 hours before departuring) so that we avoid being sick. For those that do not know, it does take some time to get used to the swinging to one side to the other. It demands time, patience and good sense. Taking pills helps, but lying down and avoiding hot and “heavy” food that demands an extra effort from your stomach, it helps. We are on the direction of Mare Bay, on the coast of the Falklands/Malvinas, to re-fuel. Then, we go direction South, towards South Orkney, crossing the Southern Ocean, via the Scotia Sea. The cold is already starting to be felt….talk to you more soon!
