Mohammad Farzamian, 25 JAN 2019, Deception Island, Antárctica This year, the geophysical group of IDL (Prof. Monteiro Santos, Dr. Mohammad Farzamian and Miguel Esteves) developed an automated Electrical Resistivity Tomography (A-ERT) system with a solar panel-driven battery and multi-electrode configuration to install at Deception Island, Antarctica in the scope of the PERMANTAR project in order to study the long-term climatic trend on the ground thermal regime as well as to investigate the impact of the short-lived extreme meteorological events on the soil horizon.
Mohammad Farzamian (IDL/ULISBOA) from the PERMANTAR project travelled to Antarctica with the Spanish Ship Hesperides across the Drake Passage and now started the A-ERT surveys at Deception Island, associated to the existing Crater Lake site of the Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring Network (CALM-S) and corresponding boreholes of the Global Terrestrial Network for Permafrost (GTN-P). This travel takes place with the support of the IDL director, Prof. Ricardo Trigo and Prof. Monteiro Santos.
